Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu laid the foundation stone of Himachal Niketan at New Delhi on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion the CM said, “The five storied Himachal Niketan would be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs 57.72 crore in Dwarka area in the national capital to accommodate students and other people visiting New Delhi.”
He said,” The building will have a total 81 rooms, 36 general category rooms exclusively for the students , two VIP rooms , 40 suites, dormitories, besides parking facility for 53 vehicles and 87 two wheelers.”
The CM said this would be an additional facility other than Himachal Bhawan and Sadan to accommodate Himachali students preparing for competitive exams in New Delhi to facilitate the students.”
“Apart from existing Himachal Bhawan and Himachal Sadan providing accommodation to people of the state visiting the national capital for various reasons, Himachal Niketan would be a third alternative for their stay; this would also provide an opportunity to people wishing to spend winter vacations in New Delhi,” he added.
The CM has directed the Public works department to ensure quality of the construction work and complete the building by 2025 as the progress of the work would be reviewed by the PWD minister. PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh welcomed the Chief Minister on the occasion.
