The National Investigation Agency (NIA) after investigation has held Himachal cadre IPS officer Arvind Digvijay Negi guilty of allegedly sharing documents related to sensitive information with overground workers of Lashkar-e- -Taiba (LeT), while working with the NIA.
The NIA had arrested Negi on February 18 to probe the accusations against him and raided his ancestral house in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The NIA would be soon filing a charge sheet against him.
Negi, a decorated police officer is considered an energetic investigation officer and former CBI Director M Nageshwar Rao and few IPS officers had demanded handing over the probe against him to CBI as apprehension of inter-service rivalry can not be ruled out, Negi was working with the NIA for quite long and was involved in investigation of sensitive cases like Malegaon blast and Samjhota express blast cases etc.
While working with the NIA he was also involved in investigating terrorist’s funding in J&K to launch terrorist activities.
Negi posted SP a few months back was also a member of SIT formed by the DGP investigating an adulterated liquor case after the death of seven persons at Slappar in Mandi district.
It is quite surprising the officer like Negi, winner of many awards, medals and known for his investigating skills has been arrested under the most appalling section 21 of the IPC (inciting war against the state), corruption and other charges.
The officer came under the radar of the NIA on tips from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and during investigation of over ground workers linked with LeT.
