The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi organized a function to observe its 12th foundation day on Wednesday which was presided over by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.
Speaking on the occasion Thakur said, “IIT Mandi is biggest and most prestigious institution of the state which is a matter of pride for all of us as the institution has been doing laudable work by carrying new researches, making valuable contribution for the development and welfare of humanity since its inception and hoped the institute would continue this endeavor”.
Thakur said , “ The institute was setup in 2009 and has made impressive progress during all these years; at present nearly 2000 students are getting education in various courses and more than hundred member faculty are teaching, along with other staff.”
Lauding the research programmes of the institute Thakur said, “It’s commendable the projects worth more than Rs 100 crore are being undertaken by the institute and IIT Mandi catalyst has received 1000 applications, supported 140 start-ups in their business and disbursed Rs 3.5 crore for their work in the field of clean energy , environment , healthcare , agriculture , biotechnology and education etc.”
He said, “It is good to know the institution has been coordinating with outstanding institutions and universities across the world under its International academic extension programme and fifty students have participated under the programmes in different institution overseas.”
Thakur said, “Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Institute continued its academic and research programmes in digital and hybrid mode and contributed in meeting the COVID challenge and hoped the institute would excel further and also inaugurated technology innovation hub on this occasion.”
Chief Minister also gave away awards to Dr. Amit Jaiswal, Dr. Hitesh, Dr. Ajay, Dr. Rahul, Dr. Mausami, Dr. Devika, Dr. Dalip, Dr. Manoj, Dr. Narsareddy, Dr. Rahul and Dr. Rajesh (all faculty members), student awards to Aryan Singh, Sachit Yadav and Parassarthi Nayak and staff awards to Sunil, Milan, Daulat Ram, Deshmesh, Nangu Ram, Ram Prakash, Navin, Dinesh, Navish, Vijay, Hem Raj, Succha Singh, Ravinder Kumar, Hem Singh and Makhan Singh.
Speaking on the occasion Director of the institute Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said, “The institute has not looked back after its inception since 2009 and the COVID -19 pandemic provided us opportunity to meet the challenge.” He also detailed out achievements of the institute in his address.
Mandi MP Ram Swaroop Sharma, local MLA Jawahar Thakur was present in the function besides the other dignitaries.
