The Congress on Wednesday stepped up its attack on the BJP over its MP Kangana Ranaut’s remarks calling for bringing back the Three Farm Laws.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi must clarify whether he is opposed to the remarks?
The Congress party demanded the actor-politician be expelled by the ruling party if BJP does not agree with her remarks.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also hit out at the BJP over Ranaut’s remarks and said the poll-bound states, including Haryana, would give a befitting reply to the ruling party.
Mandi BJP MP Kangana Ranaut had made yet another controversial statement while attending a function at Gohar in Mandi district on Tuesday.
She had said, “Though this would create controversy, Farm Laws repealed by the Central government should be brought back; farmers should themselves demand to bring back three farm laws so that there is no hindrance in their prosperity.”
“Farmers are a pillar of strength in India’s progress. Only in some states, they had objected to farm laws. I appeal with folded hands that farm laws should be brought back in the interest of farmers,” she said.
Her remarks had evoked strong reaction from the opposition leaders, farmer’s organizations and within her party, before the Haryana Assembly election on October 5, after which Ranaut on Wednesday withdrew her remarks.
In a video message she said, “I am a Member of Parliament besides being a film actor; since Three Farm Laws were repealed by the Modi government I should not have made such a comment. I made this remark in my personal capacity and withdrew my remarks.”
