All India People’s Science Network (AIPSN) is organizing a workshop from November 30 to December 3rd at Society for Technology and Development (STD) center Nagwain in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, to highlight the Right to Health in India.
An Executive Committee member of AIPSN Joginder Walia said, “The workshop is focusing on capacity building of health rights activists as part of a nationwide campaign to highlight the right to health and is jointly organized by the AIPSN and OP Jindal Global University.
Dr. Amit Sengupta Memorial Lecture was also delivered by Dr. Abhay Shukla, national co-convener of Jan Swasthya Abhiyan to commemorate the contribution of Dr Amit Sengupta towards Jan Swasthay Abhiyan on the occasion .
Sharing information regarding health services in government and private sector, De Shukla said, “During the COVID -19 times when millions throughout the word and in India were suffering from the worst pandemic the number of millionaires increased manifold, making is clear the health sector has become a booming business for private players.”
He said, “Various corrupt practices are prevalent in health insurance schemes, testing centers, laboratories and private hospitals are fleecing people but the Central and State governments have failed to regulate these.”
The workshop was also addressed by N. R. Thakur, District Child Protection Officer, Mandi, Asha Mishra, General Secretary, AIPSN , DP Gupta from STD, Prof. Indranil from Jindal university and Joginder Walia.
The participants from eight northern states i.e Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are attending the workshop .
