BJP stalwart and former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Shanta Kumar has praised India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru after unveiling his statue at Palampur.
Shanta Kumar known for speaking out independent thoughts on several occasions , even differing to ideological position of the BJP , while addressing a gathering in the programme he said , “ This was a historical programme on the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as Palampur has no barriers among political parties and such programmes are held seldom elsewhere .”
Veteran BJP leaders said, “I had noticed the statue of the first PM in bad condition and wrote to SDM Palampur requesting him to replace the statue and had sent a cheque of Rs 1 lakh for the purpose; Congress leaders had requested me to unveil the statue and I agreed happily.”
He said, “Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru went to jail several times while fighting for the independence of the country against the British rule and laid the foundation of independent India; he had come to Palampur to meet Congress leader KL Butail, which was a matter of pride of every resident of Palampur.”
Shanta Kumar said , “ The level of politics in Palampur is very high and here you see the politics of love and respect and there is no politics of hatred and malice; earlier in our democracy fight was based on principles but now it is becoming a flight to oppose each other” , he added.
