Hundreds of sanitation workers ward attendants, security personnel, staff nurses, date entry operators, laboratory technicians, cooks and helpers sacked by Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) authorities, held a silent protest demonstration before the office of Labour Department at Shimla on Thursday.
The sacked employees have launched an agitation against the IGMC administration for the past several weeks.
The state president of Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Vijendra Mehra said, “Sacking nearly two hundred COVID warriors from IGMC is shameful, inhuman and anti labour act of the IGMC administration and demanded immediate intervention of the Labour Department.”
He said, “Removing 20 security personnel is in contravention of labour laws and the company selected to employ security personnel has been given contract against norms.”
Himachal Pradesh Outsourced Employees Union’s leaders have accused the IGMC authorities for not adhering to provisions of the labour laws and adopting hire and fire policy.
The trade union leaders have warned the authorities to immediately take all sacked employees back failing which they would forced to intensify the agitation and start mass arrests , chakka jam and jail bharo andolan.
The Union leaders also held a meeting with the offices of the Labour Department.
