
With the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Himachal Pradesh on Friday, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) center, Shimla has issued an orange alert of heavy rain in several parts of the state for the next few days.
The monsoon has already hit several parts of the state with intermittent rain in Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala and Mandi.
The IMD center Shimla said, “Widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over many parts of low hills, plains and adjoining mid hills and light to moderate rainfall over some parts of the high and adjoining mid hills of the state till June 25, with peak intensity on June 22 and 25, as conditions are good for advancement of the monsoon.”
“ Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Shimla, Sirmaur and Solan and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Chamba, kullu and Mandi districts on June 22, heavy to very heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Kangra and Sirmaur on June 23, heavy rainfall at isolated places over Shimla, Solan and Mandi districts on June 24 and heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over Chamba, Sirmaur, Mandi and Solan districts, which may extend to June 25 , ” as per IMD center Shimla.
The department has issued an alert for the possible localized landslides, mudslides in vulnerable areas over the next few days, and the possibility of water logging in low lying areas.
