Five persons travelling in a Bolero Camper lost their lives on Sunday morning near Kataula when the vehicle met with an accident.  

A police source said , “ A pickup vehicle number PB02-EG-4543 was on its way to IIT Kamand carrying certain goods from Ludhiana with six occupants. At about 9 am its driver lost control over the vehicle, hitting a railing of the bridge near Kataula and leaving five occupants dead.”

“ Three of the deceased have been identified as Sukhvinder Singh, son of Harbans Singh , resident of Ludhiana; Umesh Kumar, son of Raja Ram , resident of Pratap Nagar , Amritsar; and Sagar, son of Surender Kumar , resident of Firozpur , while two victims are still to be identified,” the police said .

All the deceased died on the spot, while Jagtar Singh, driver of the vehicle, was injured in the accident and is under treatment at Zonal Hospital, Mandi.

Emergency services and police officials immediately rushed to the spot on receiving the information.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has expressed grief over the tragic road accident and directed the district administrations to provide all possible assistance to the families of the deceased and ensure the best medical care for the injured.

In his condolence message, the CM said, “This is a heart-wrenching incident, and the state government stands firmly with the affected families in this hour of grief.”
