India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire ending the four-day-long armed conflict, which had threatened peace in the subcontinent, as both hostile nuclear powers had launched major offensives across the India-Pakistan borders.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump posted on X, “India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire.”

He stated ““After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a ‘full and immediate ceasefire”.

“Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and intelligence: the ceasefire marks a significant step towards de-escalation and dialogue in the region, offering hope for lasting peace. Both nations now have an opportunity to engage in constructive discussions and address the underlying issues that have long plagued their relationship. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” said Trump.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, “The ceasefire came into effect at 1700 hours on Saturday. The Pakistan Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) initiated the call this afternoon at 1535 hours with the Indian DGMO, after which discussions took place and an understanding was reached.”

“The DGMOs Would Call Up Again On May 12 And Hold Further Discussion”, Misri Said.

In his post on X, Pakistan’s foreign minister Ishaq Dar wrote, “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!”

This development marks a significant step towards reducing tensions along the Line of Control, and a glimmer of hope for lasting peace in the region. Both sides expressed optimism that continued dialogue would pave the way for further de-escalation and cooperation in the future. ”

This commitment to dialogue signifies a willingness to address underlying issues and foster mutual understanding. As both nations move forward, the international community will be watching closely to see if this newfound momentum can lead to lasting stability and improved relations.

Indian Army sources said, “The stopping of firing and military action between India and Pakistan was worked out directly between the two countries”.
