The Himachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Welfare Association (HPUTWA) and Non-Teaching Staff Association jointly held a protest on Monday, outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office, Summer Hill, demanding immediate disbursement of salaries.

 The HPU teachers also boycotted the classes in protest of non-payment of salaries.

Addressing the protest, Dr Nitin Vyas, president, HPUTWA, said, “The secretary (education) has not signed the salary file, despite it being on his table for the last ten days. The file was not signed, resulting in a delay in the payment of salaries .”

He said, “ It was a practice; the university used to receive grant-in-aid quarterly from the state government, but it is now being provided on a monthly basis, due to which the university has to approach the government each month for funds.”

The HPUTWA said , “ HPU being a state university, it is the responsibility of the state government to ensure timely payment of salaries, but the same are delayed now.”

 After three hours of protest, they met Pro-Vice Chancellor Rajendra Verma , who assured to streamline the salary payments.
