The Himachal Pradesh High Court ordered the state government to hand over the investigation into the death of Vimal Negi, Chief Engineer of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL), to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Sharing details of the court orders, lawyer of the deceased’s family, RK Bawa, said , “ To rule out the possibility of foul play in the alleged ‘suicide’ by the former Chief Engineer, HP High Court has ordered the CBI to conduct a fair investigation in the matter .”
He said , “ After submission of the inquiry report by Additional Chief Secretary Onkar Sharma, ordered by the state government, the family of the deceased had pointed out the possibility of foul play cannot be ruled out; even the report had mentioned the matter is not being probed in a fair manner .”
Chief Engineer Vimal Negi, working as Chief Engineer in HPPCL, had gone missing from his Shimla office on March 10, and his body was recovered from Gobindsagar Dam on March 18 near Bilaspur.
His family has been suspecting alleged “ pressure on him by his bosses as the reason for his death and demanding action against top HPCL officials, including its then MD Hrikesh Meena, Director, (Personnel )Shivam Pratap and Director ( Electrical ) Des Raj, who are on bail at present .”
