Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition in Himachal, Jai Ram Thakur has accused the Sukhu-led Congress government of releasing advertisements to the Congress party’s newspaper, “ National Herald, worth more than two crores,” against the norms.
Talking to media persons at Mandi on Thursday, Thakur accused, “On the one hand, the state government has stopped welfare schemes like HIM CARE, forcing people to get treatment in medical emergencies by selling their lands and other valuables, and on the other hand, the Sukhu-led state government issued advertisements to Congress publications National Herald and Navjeevan Weekly, worth more than two crores, by flouting norms and in violation of DAVP rules.”
“ Strangely , Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has tried to justify the state government’s action of giving the advertisements by saying National Herald is our newspaper, and we can give as many advertisements to it as much as we want, despite the deep financial crunch in the state,” he added .
Commenting on protests by the Congressress party over ED action against Congress leaders in the National Herald case , the former chief minister alleged , “ The Congress party and corruption have become synonymous, and whenever the national investigation agencies start uncovering the layers of scams committed by them, Congress tries to scare and threaten these agencies by doing politics of pressure in the country .”
He said, “BJP has started a nationwide campaign on the issue, and it would apprise people about the entire issue.”
