A function was organized at Mandi on Wednesday to observe the death anniversary of veteran journalist Hemkant Katyan where three persons from different fields were honored by Additional Chief Secretary of the State Government Onkar Sharma, Chief Guest of the function.
Veteran journalist Ramesh Bunta from Jogindernagar was honoured with the Hemkant Katyayan Journalism Award, Dr Vijay Vishal was honoured with the Sahitya Seva Samman and Shehnai player Surajmani was honoured with Kala Seva Samman posthumously. Surajmani’s wife Meena Devi received this award on his behalf.
Speaking on the occasion, Sharma praised the Hemkant trust for organizing the function and praised Mandi town for its rich cultural heritage and traditions .
He said , “ Starting the tradition of honoring the personalities who have done remarkable work by forming a trust in the name of senior journalist Hemkant Katyayan is a very good gesture and hoped this tradition would continue.”
Mayor of Mandi Municipal Corporation Virendra Bhatt, Deputy Commissioner Mandi Apoorv Devgan, Trust President Nirmala Katyayan, trust member Sidharth Katyan among others were present on the occasion.
A cultural programme was also presented on the occasion.
