Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia took the oath as the new Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on Sunday.

Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla administered the oath of office to Justice Sandhawalia.

Born on November 1, 1965, Justice Sandhawalia completed his B.A. (Hons.) from DAV College, Chandigarh, in 1986, followed by a Law Degree from Punjab University, Chandigarh. He began practicing law in August 1989 at the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Justice Sandhawalia was elevated to the bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2011 and became a permanent judge in 2014. He headed various High Court Committees and served as Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in February 2024.

The ceremony was attended by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Kuldeep Singh Pathania, several cabinet ministers, judges of the Himachal Pradesh and Punjab-Haryana High Courts, Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena and other dignitaries.
