The Himachal Pradesh government will soon prepare a comprehensive plan to combat the rising menace of drug abuse among youths of the state.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur said this while addressing  the convention organized at Shimla by Himachal Gyan Vigyan Center Shimla on the World Literacy Day on Sunday to highlight the issue of rising trend of drug abuse.

In his address he said, “Curbing the menace has become the utmost need of the hour and the state government will soon prepare a strategy to fight the menace.”

Thakur said, “We intend to involve youths through coordinated efforts of various departments, educational institutions and voluntary organizations for creating awareness and wean away youths from the drug abuse through a concerted effort and reach the roots of the problem.”

The convention mainly focused on protecting the state’s youth from the dangers of chemical and narcotic substances. The convention highlighted the growing concern over drug abuse in Himachal Pradesh and the urgent need for a unified strategy.

The minister said, “The state government is committed to make the state drug free as the drug abuse is having disastrous consequences and adverse impact on the young generation and the society as a whole.”

He pointed out, “The breakdown in the social fabric, coupled with the increasing isolation and easy access to technology, is contributing to harmful behaviors among the young generation and stressed the need to use technology effectively to help bring out youths from the clutches of drug abuse.”

Addressing the connection Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, Chairman of Rajya Gyan Vigyan Kendra urged the state government to devise a concrete plan to fight drug abuse and create a special task force.
