Twin tunnels constructed for Mandi by- pass on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane road project, near Mandi were opened for the traffic on Monday as a trial run by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
Deputy Commissioner Mandi Apoorv Devgan and officials of NHAI were present on the occasion.
After the completion of four lane project nearly eight km long Mandi bypass has been made operational, which is important for promoting tourisms and is also of strategic importance,
Speaking on the occasion, DC Mandi Apporv Devgan said, “Once this road is completely opened for traffic, the movement of heavy vehicles through Mandi town will be reduced, providing relief to the people of Mandi city from the daily traffic jams, as it will significantly ease traffic congestion, especially during peak tourist season.”
NHAI has constructed the four lane project with the cost of about Rs 725 crore and three and seven small bridges and four tunnels on this bypass route.
