Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday conferred degrees to 333 students in the first convocation of Sardar Patel University (SPU) Mandi, besides awarding Gold Medals to 12 students for their achievements.  

Addressing the audience on the occasion, the Governor appreciated the rapid progress made by the university in a short stint.

He said, “Implementation of the National Education Policy-2020, the creation of an Indian Knowledge Tradition Cell and the formation of various academic committees are some of the significant achievements.”

He said , “ The convocation is a pivotal event , it  marks academic success, but also serves as a catalyst for future aspirations and lifelong learning; Convocation is more than a ceremonial event, it marks a new direction in the lives of students and inspires them for their future endeavors,” Shukla emphasized.

He also highlighted the role of education in fostering intellectual, moral and spiritual growth, aligning with the principles of the National Education Policy.

The Governor expressed optimism about the SPU’s future, hoping it would   become one of India’s leading universities.

The Governor also appreciated Vice Chancellor Lalit Kumar Awasthy for implementing development projects at the university expeditious.  

The Vice-Chancellor of SPU Prof. Lalit Kumar Awasthy presented a report outlining the recent achievements and development efforts of the university. He expressed his gratitude to the Governor for his presence and continued support.

Director of IIT, Ropar Rajiv Ahuja, serving as Guest of Honour, emphasized the pivotal role of research in the advancement of the university; MLA Chander Shekhar Sharma also addressed the audience on the occasion.
