Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has assured to maintain peace and harmony in the state in the wake of controversy of construction of a religious place in Sanjauli area of Shimla in Himachal Pradesh.

The construction has turned into a major controversy as certain pro Hindu organizations had protested the construction and held demonstrations at Chaura  Maidan Shimla and had taken out a match in Sanjauli on Thursday.

Few organizations have been demanding a ban on construction alleging, “The construction was being done illegally, however the state government has stated the religious place was being constructed on the land of a religious organization.”

This issue was also raised on the floor of Himachal Vidhan Sabha where Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh also raised this issue saying, “The construction was being done illegally.”

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukku while  talking to media persons at Shimla on Friday said, “Two ministers of the state government took stock of the situation after visiting the spot; since the matter is in the court, action would be taken as per law.”

The CM said, “We respect every religion and cannot act as per emotions but we will act as per law and appealed    people to maintain peace and religious harmony.”
