As many as 636 pass outs got degrees in 12th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi in a ceremony held at IIT on Saturday.

Among those who got the degrees were 463 male and 173 female students. Fifty five candidates were awarded PhD degrees, 16 MS/ M Tech (Research Degrees, 102 M Tech degrees among other degrees.

 B.Tech Graduate in mechanical engineering Shashwat Gupta was given the President of India Gold Medal for achieving the highest CGPA among undergraduate students. Another, B.Tech graduate in Bio Engineering Jain Hiya Sudhir received the Director’s Gold Medal, for outstanding all-round performance among undergraduate students.

Devanshu Sajwan, a M.Sc. graduate in Chemistry, received the Institute’s Gold Medal for overall outstanding performance.

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of, Chairman & Managing Director of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) Manoj Jain as the Chief Guest, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director IIT Ropar Dr. Narendra Kumar Arya, Director of ER & IPR at DRDO and Krishna Ika, CEO and Chairman of Brainwave Science as Guests of Honour.

IIT Director Prof. Laxmidhar Behera presented the Director’s report, encapsulating the Institute’s remarkable accomplishments and said, “This is culmination of years of hard work and the beginning of a journey filled with opportunities to make a meaningful impact.”

 He highlighted the Institute’s recent developments, including the coming up of new centres and academic programs, as well as the achievements of its alumni. Notably, he recognized Nitesh Kumar, a B.Tech. 2020 Electrical Engineering alumnus, for winning the Gold Medal in Men’s Singles Badminton (under SL3 Category) at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. 

Sharing the message, Lt. Gen. Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon (Retd.) stated, “The vision of IIT Mandi is to be a leader in science and technology education, knowledge creation, and innovation.” 

 In his address Chief Guest Manoj Jain remarked, “The IIT Mandi has carved a niche for itself in the ever-evolving landscape of professional education in India and I am confident the graduating students will carry forward the legacy of Brand IIT, contributing significantly to both the aspirations of a Viksit Bharat and the global economy, ” he said.

 In their addresses Prof. Rajeev Abuja, Dr Narendra Kumar Arya and Krishna Ika also inspired the graduates and shared their experiences.
