Three persons have died and at least 45 people have gone missing in Shimla, Kullu and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh during the past twenty four hours as torrential rains caused flash floods at several places on Wednesday night in the area.
CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has convened an emergency meeting at HP Secretariat Shimla to take stock of the situation on Thursday morning.
The Malana Hydro Power project (40 Megawatt), situated near Malana village in Kullu district, has been seriously damaged as its dam burst and power house damaged.
DC Shimla Anupam Kashyap said , “ Two bodies have been recovered and at least 36 people are currently missing after a devastating cloudburst near the Samej Khad Hydro Power Project in Rampur subdivision of Shimla district and rescues teams of NDRF , CISF are trying to search for missing people, SDM Rampur is heading the rescue operations, “ he said.
The local administration is still trying to assess the exact losses after the incident.
In the Nirmand area flash floods in Bharati Nalah near Sinhagad (the base of camp for Shrikhand Yatra), at least seven people have gone missing. Eight houses, including Patwar Khana, hotels and shops, have been washed away as per a report.
In Mandi district one body has been recovered and eight people have gone missing after a flash flood near Tenag (Tikan) under Padhar Police station of the Mandi district.
Deputy Commissioner Mandi has left for the spot to supervise the rescue operation launched by NDRF , SDRF and local police teams .
All educational institutions in the affected regions have been closed as authorities focus on rescue and relief operations.
