The nationwide strike to protest brutal murder of a woman doctor at Kolkata’s Kar Medical College evoked a massive response parlaying the health services in the region on Saturday.
The call for strike was given by the Indian Medical Association and various state organizations of medical , Aayush doctors and paramedical staff.
Health services throughout Himachal Pradesh have been severely disrupted as the Himachal Medical Officers Association (HMOA) joined the nationwide strike.
The strike began in the morning at 6 am in various hospitals and medical institutions in Himachal Pradesh as Doctors and paramedical staff did not provide any medical services or attended patients in OPDs, except the emergency cases.
Several private hospitals and clinics also remained closed today as doctors and staff joined the protests throughout the state.
The protesting doctors are demanding safety measures for doctors in hospitals, especially female doctor’s and death penalty for the accused involved in the incident.
The brutality with a female doctor at Kolkata hospital has enraged the medical community throughout the country and millions of doctors and paramedical staff have come out to join the protest.
The activists of SFI, ABVP, DYFI, Janwadi Mahila Samiti, and BJP Mahjila Morcha also held protest demonstrations demanding death penalty for the rapist and security for medical staff in medical institutions.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has urged the protesting doctors and medical students across the nation to resume their duties and assured them all possible efforts to ensure safety of the healthcare professionals.

I am of the view that doctors should be given magnetic cards so that rooms of doctors could not be opened by other any person. This card will also record by the lock device that would show who has opened the door and what time. It will safeguard the doctors particularly those work in night shifts.
