The assembly election in Haryana is a litmus test for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been ruling the state since 2014. In the previous assembly polls, the BJP had won 40 seats and formed the government in a coalition with Dushyant Chautala-led Jannayak Janta Party (JJP).
However, JPP has broken its alliance with BJP and Congress had made significant gains in the last Parliament election.
The last J&K assembly poll was held in 2014 and the government fell in 2018. In August 2019, the JK Reorganization Act divided J&K state into UTs of J&K and Ladakh.
The Supreme Court in December 2023 while upholding the constitutionality of abrogation of Article 370 had asked the EC to hold J&K polls by September 30.
