As predicted by Mausam Vigyan Kendra Shimla, the southwest monsoon has hit six districts of Himachal Pradesh. 

The weather department said , “ The  monsoon has hit parts of districts of Una, Shimla, Mandi, Kangra, Chamba and Hamirpur districts and other districts of the state are likely to get monsoon rains in the next 72 hours as the normal date of the arrival of monsoon in the state is June 22.and monsoon will be normal this year ”

The department had issued an orange alert on Thursday of heavy rains in several districts of the state.

Shimla was hit by heavy downpour on Friday, Malyana and Chamyana areas of Shimla town, at Chamyana a portion of a hill slipped and three vehicles parked nearby were damaged. Damage from flash floods has also been reported from Solan district.

Meanwhile , former Shimla Deputy Mayor Tikender Singh Panwar in a letter to Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, has emphasized an urgent need to implement the suggestion made in state’s 2023 disaster management report to check colossal loss from monsoon rain fury like the one occurred last year.
