Four senior MBBS students of Rajendra Prasad Medical College Tanda (Kangra) have been expelled from the college for allegedly ragging juniors in two separate incidents, by the college administration on Tuesday.
In one case of ragging two students of the 2019 batch have been expelled from the college and hostel for one year and also been fined Rs one lakh each .
In the second incident of ragging two 2022 batch students have been expelled for six months from the college and hostel for six months and fined Rs 50,000 each .
As per information two complaints were registered online by eight junior MBBS students with the National Medical Council of India after which the council wrote to the college authorities to investigate the matter . The college authorities referred the matter to the anti-ragging committee, and action was taken .
The principal of Tanda medical college, Dr Milap Sharma said, “Two students of 2019 and two from 2022 batches have been expelled from the college for one year and six months and also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 each, respectively, on the basis of report of anti-ragging committee; as the medial college have a zero tolerance to any incident of ragging, a heavy fines have been imposed as a deterrent,” he added.
It is notable; a medical student of the college, Aman Kachroo had died during a ragging incident in 2009 after which the Supreme Court of India had framed guidelines to strictly check ragging in educational institutions, especially professional colleges.
