Disqualification of the Mayor and a former Mayor in Congress led Solan Municipal Corporation, has reduced the Congress group to a minority.
Principal Secretary Urban Development Devesh Kumar, in a notification issued on June 10, had disqualified the Mayor Usha Sharma and former Mayor Punam Grover from their membership of Solan Municipal Corporation.
Both of them have been disqualified for defying party directions during the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor held in December 2023.
Usha Sharma had filed her candidature for the Mayor’s post while Punam Grover had seconded it despite the Congress nominating Sardar Singh, resulting in the defeat of the official nominee of the Congress.
The Congress party had made a written complaint to the Urban Development Department in this regard after which the action had been taken.
