Communal tension gripped Nahan town of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday as members of a Hindu organization protested against certain people of minority community.
A local person said, “ “A group of protesters allegedly vandalized a shop, marched towards the Deputy Commissioners’ office and held a demonstration to protest a media post depicting an animal slaughter”.
“The trouble started after a media post was circulated on social media in which a person was seen slaughtering an animal fuelling protest from members of the majority community”, he said .
A police source said , “ The post of an animal slaughter in the open invited the ire of certain people, who marched to a shop owned by a person allegedly responsible for circulating the post ; in fact the post had its origin in Saharanpur ( UP) and not linked to the town.”
“The protesters had called for a trade bandh and a section of them tried to vandalize a shop but police immediately swung into action and tried to pacify the protesters”, he added.
SP Nahan, Raman Kumar Meena said, “The Police is keeping a close watch and the situation is under control.”
