In a shocking incident, an accused booked for attack on former Bilaspur Congress MLA Bambar Thakur, was shot at in the District & Session Court premises by assailants on Thursday.
Injured Saurabh Patial was rushed to All India Institute of Medical Sciences after the incident and Bilaspur police have arrested one of the assailants identified as Sunny Gill, a resident of Ludhiana (Punjab) in the case .
According to an eye witness, “The incident occurred in the afternoon when 13 accused booked in the case of an attack on former Bilaspur Congress MLA Bambar Thakur on February 27 in a construction company’s office, had come to attend a court appearance in the case, as one of the accused went towards his car parked outside after the court hearing; a few motorcycle borne assailants started firing at him with a pistol.”
“On hearing the gun shots Saurabh ran to take shelter in the court premises but was hit by a bullet on his back leaving him profusely bleeding, who was later shifted to AIIMS,” he added.
The firing in the VIP area of Bilaspur, having offices of DC, SP, besides District & Session Court, created a panic as window panes of several vehicles were broken in the firing incident.
Deputy Inspector General of Central Range G Shiva Kumar, who rushed to the spot after the firing incident, said, “The police have arrested a Ludhiana resident Sunny Gill, allegedly involved in the incident along with a desi katta and a case under section 307 of IPC and Arms Act has been registered; further probe is on,” he added.
