Hours before the last day of nominations, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination papers from the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat on Friday , a constituency held by his mother Sonia Gandhi for the last two decades. He is also contesting from Waynad constituency in Kerala.
Sonia was elected from Raebareli in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019. She has shifted to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan this year.
Rahul, who arrived in Rae Bareli to file nominations held a road show. He was accompanied by his mother and veteran Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
The candidature was announced early Thursday morning, putting an end to speculations of his sister Priyanka contesting from the seat.
From Amethi, the Congress has fielded Gandhi family loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma who used to look after the segment in the absence of Gandhis.
