Noted Supreme Court lawyer and senior civil rights activist Prashant Bhushan talked about alleged negative aspects of Electoral Bonds stressing the need to save our Democracy and the constitution of India.
Addressing a gathering at Mandi on Wednesday, he said , “The electoral bonds were declared unconstitutional in February 2024, by the apex court and we have now filed a petition in the SC demanding to constitute a court monitored SIT to further probe the matter to uncover the corruption involved.”
He said, “The details of electoral bonds, which were put in the public domain shows many companies donated a large sum of money through bonds to ruling parties to get favour for promoting their business interests and getting important projects , besides giving money to the ruling party for avoiding action in irregularities committed while running their businesses .”
Prashant alleged, “The data exposes cases of possible extortion, involving agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the CBI and the Income Tax Department; the electoral bonds scam is potentially the biggest corruption scam in the country, which requires a thorough probe by an independent body, ” he added .
He also urged to vote in the ensuing election to save our Democracy and the constitution of India, raising some doubts about the working of voting machines.
Civil Rights Activist Dr Ashok Somal, members of Mandi Gyan Vigyan Samiti, Sakshrta Samiti, DYFI, Kisan Sabha and local lawyers in a large number attended the lecture.
