Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti (HGVS) submitted a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer (ECO) of the state, Muneesh Garg at Shimla on Tuesday demanding a check on distribution of drugs during the ensuing parliament election.
After submitting the memorandum, state secretary of the HGVS, Satyawan Pundir said, “The HGVS has expressed serious concern on distribution of drugs among youths to allure them by certain unscrupulous political agents and urged him to prevail upon the state government agencies to curb the menace to ensure free and fair election in the state.”
He said, “Distribution of liquor to woo voters during election is quite common but the problem has acquired alarming proportions as distribution of synthetic drugs among youths to lure them have also been reported from many districts.”
The Samiti stressed, “To uphold fairness of the electoral process and sanctity of democratic principles it is very important to curb the distribution of liquor, drugs, and money by taking strict measures.”
HGVS has launched a statewide campaign against the use of drugs in association with DYFI, Jan Sawsthya Abhiyan and Beti Bachao Abhiyan organizations.
