Himachal Government College Teachers Association (HGCTA) has strongly criticized the functioning of Sardar Patel University (SPU) Mandi.
In a press release, president of the HGCTA Dr Banita Saklani accused, “The functioning of the SPU is anti-student and anti-education as the university authorities are busy in making anti government propaganda, and have urged the state government to take strict cognizance of the functioning of the university by constituting a committee,”
She said, “The University has never been able to declare the results of the examinations on time nor has it been able to conduct the examinations on time and delayed annual examinations for the session 2023 -24, disrupting the upcoming academic session completely.”
Substantiating the HGCTA’s charges, she said, “Every year the education secretariat releases the academic calendar for colleges and as per this calendar the annual examinations in the academic session of 2023-24 should have been conducted from 1 April 2024 to 23 May 2024, but The SPU has failed to conduct the exams on time.”
She said, “Two days back the SPU announced to hold the exams when the teachers would be deployed on election duties in the month from May 14 to June 29; during which the counting of votes on June 4 will also be undertaken in several colleges restricting entry of college staff, except on counting duty, disrupting the examinations process.”
“As a result of this the next session would be delayed and commence in September affecting the education calendar and adversely affecting the careers of a large number of students”, she added.
