Several organizations of Himachal Pradesh have come in support of Sonam Wangchuk – known innovator and education reformer of Ladakh, observing hunger strike in Leh for the 8th day on Thursday to protect the rights of people of Ladakh.
Himalaya Niti Abhiyan supporting the people of Ladakh said, “ Himalayan region is a unique land of diversity with its own ecological, geological complexity, socio-cultural and spiritual values which attract people from all over the world and it is important people of the region develop and take decisions as per specifics needs of the region in mind.”
It said, “Ladakh is remote and fragile ecosystems in the Himalayan region, where people have launched a mass agitation to protest denial of their legitimate rights including their rights to govern, inclusion under Schedule VI of the Constitution of India and reservation in jobs etc.”
The statement said, “We support the spirit of Satyagrah by Sonam Wangchuk , fellow Ladakhis people, and stand by their struggle.”
Save Spiti organization and NGOs of Kinnaur have also rendered their support to ongoing agitation in Ladakh.
Entering his hunger strike for the 8th day, Sonam Wangchuk has appealed “to join him for 1 day #climate fast on 17th March in cities by holding a gathering to save the ecosystem and to educate people of big cities to live simply.”
