All India Congress Committee (AICC) has decided to field Supreme Court Lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi to fill the Rajya Sabha seat getting vacated on April 2nd from Himachal Pradesh.
The term of national president of BJP, JP Nadda, the present Rajya Sabha member from Himachal Pradesh is coming to an end on April 2nd, since Congress has gained absolute majority with 40 MLAs in the house of 68 in Himachal Pradesh Assembly after the last Assembly election, the election of Congress nominee is almost certain.
Himachal Pradesh Congress leaders had requested former AICC president Sonia Gandhi to contest Rajya Sabha election from the state but she has opted to contest from Rajasthan.
JP Nadda has been nominated to contest a Rajya Sabha seat from Gujarat.
Singhvi, who looks into legal affairs of the Congress party today met HP Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in Shimla on Wednesday and is likely to file his nomination on Thursday.
