The ongoing strike by employees of Zila Parishad has been withdrawn by the employees after getting assurance from Minister of Rural Development Anirudh Singh to concede their demands.
The development came when the state government had suspended 167 striking junior engineers working in various Zila Parishads on Friday.
Forty seven hundred employees working in Zila Parishad of the state had struck their work on September 30 to pressurize the state government for merging them with the employees of Rural Development Department.
A representative of the Zila Parishad employees said, “The Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh had invited us for talks and given us an assurance to fulfill all our demands; the minister had also assured to soon convene a meeting with our representatives to discuss all our demands and find a solution.”
The strike by Zila Parishad employees had brought the development works in rural areas to standstill and affected the ongoing restoration work in natural calamity affected areas; the state government has recently released a relief package of Rs 4500 crore to restoration of public services after huge loss of public and private property in the state during devastating monsoon disaster. A large amount of the relief package is to be spent through MGNREGA .

The government’s action to suspend as many as 167 JEs was a bad decision, keeping in mind the ensuing elections. The Chief Minister should understand that it was the employees of the state that made it possible to form a Congress government, and therefore any repression against the employees and working class would boomerang against
