The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi kick started the Yuva Sangam programme on Friday at the institute campus in Kamand.
Talking to media persons the Director of IIT Mandi Prof. Laxmidhar Behara said, “Yuva Sangam is a cultural and academic exchange programme launched by the Central government under EK Bharat Shreshtha Bharat scheme.”
“Under this programme a group of 45 youths from Himachal and Ladakh are being taken to Goa for academic and cultural tour, where they would stay for five days in IIT Goa and visit different places,” he added.
He said, “The institute is working for sustainable development by empowering farmers and is also working for creating entrepreneurs in agriculture by providing them techniques and promoting traditional methods of organic farming, besides techniques of climate control agriculture.”
As many as 45 students under the Yuva Sangam programme started their journey from Mandi on Friday. Padmashri Nek Ram Sharma and ADC Mandi Nivedita Negi were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Padamshri Nek Ram Sharma said, “Aligning with the UN declaration The International Year of Millet 2023, depleting nutrient value of food, less fiber intake and fast-food culture is deteriorating our health. Millets are very nutritious, environment friendly and sustainable and youths must strive to know about natural farming and promote millet.”
