Balh Bachao Sangharsh Samiti organized a protest march holding tricolors to oppose the proposed construction of Balh airport on the fertile land of Balh on Tuesday.
The activists of the smiti marched from Kansa Chowk ground to the residence of Balh MLA Inder Singh Gandhi at Kummi and handed him over a demand charter.
Secretary of Balh Bachao Sangharsh Samiti Nand Lal Verma said, “Commemorating the 80th anniversary of Quit India Movement launched on August 9, 1942 the farmers of Balh organized a march from Kansa Chowk to residence of Balh MLA Inder Singh Gandhi to oppose the proposed construction of Airport in the Balh Valley.”
He said , “ We also submitted a demand charter to the ML:A to take up this matter with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur as farmers of the area are opposing the construction of the airport on fertile land .”
The samiti opposing unilateral action of the state government has demanded , “ Social Impact Assessment be carried , public hearing be held to hear public grievances and project should not be given go ahead without proper rehabilitation, adequate compensation for the land acquired for the project and address their other demands.”
It has also urged the state government to shift the airport project to some other place on barren land.
