Himachal Pradesh government would give fifty percent concession to women passengers in Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses from Friday.
Launching nari ko naman programme at Dharamshala on Thursday Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said , “ The women passengers would get fifty percent concession in fare for travel in the HRTC buses , minimum bus fare now would be Rs 5 instead of Rs 7 and 25 women drivers for HRTC run Ride With Pride Taxi Service would be engaged ,”
He also announced to fill up 265 posts of motor mechanics, electricians etc in HRTC, besides taking up the matter of providing Rs 30 crore to the corporation with the finance department .
The CM said, “The decision to allow fifty percent concession to women is not a political decision but a step towards strengthening women and making them self reliant for which the state government would be spending nearly Rs 60 crore annually,”
The Chief Minister said, “ Women constitute half of our population and no development can be possible without their active participation in the process; the state government has already reserved fifty percent seats for them in local bodies’, besides starting schemes like mukhya mantri grihni suvidha yojna”.
Speaker of Himachal Vidhan Sabha Vipin Pramar, ministers, MPs, MLA’s and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
