Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has thanked Prime Minister Narender Modi for extending Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojna (PMGKAY) for another six months.
The CM said, “Under the scheme food security to weaker sections of society is being provided by the Central government since April 2020 after the outbreak of COVID -19 pandemic and Rs 2.60 lakh crores have been spent till now for giving free ration to people.”
He said, “The fifth phase of the scheme was coming to an end in March this year but the Cenral government has decided to extend the scheme for another six months till September 2022 by spending an amount of Rs 80,000 crores taking the total expenditure of the scheme to Rs 3.40 lakh crores.”
“Nearly 80 crores beneficiaries including people of the state are being given 5 kg free ration per person every month in addition to normal quota of food grains getting under National Food Security Act scheme,” he added.
