The Balh Bachao Kisan Sangharsh Samiti held a protest demonstration in front of SDM office Balh at Kansa Chowk to oppose the airport project in Balh valley on Tuesday.
Hundreds of farmers from Dhaban, Tawan, Sianh, Kummi, Kathial and Chhatru assembled at Kansa Chowk and later marched to SDM office to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narender Modi and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur through SDM.
Addressing the rally secretary of the Samiti Nandi Lal Verma said,” The airport project should be shifted to some other place having barren land as hundreds of families in Balh would be ousted from their most fertile cultivable land rendering them out of work.”
President of the Samiti Joginder Walia said, “The state government has failed to rehabilitate and give four times compensation to evacuees of four lane projects and now Chief Minister has allegedly given them a false promise to give four time compensation to the farmers whose land would be acquired in the airport project.”
He said, “The administration has announced to give compensation ranging from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 11 lakh while farmers are earning nearly Rs 3 lakh per bigha from cash crops every year.”
Kisan Sabha district president Kushal Bhardwaj and others also addressed the rally demanding shifting of the airport project to some other area and giving four times compensation to farmers, besides rehabilitating them.
