Amidst growing concern of spread of the omicron variant of COVID -19 throughout the country, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched a vaccination drive for youngsters between 15 to 18 years in the state from Vijay Senior Secondary School Mandi on Monday.
Ravi Kumar, a 10+2 student of the school became the first youngster to get the first jab of covaxine in this age group as the Chief Minister launched the drive in the state.
The Chief Minister has also appealed to people to come forward in getting vaccinated against the COVID-19 to protect themselves from the virus as this is the best option to fight the pandemic at present.
He said, “In Himachal Pradesh about 3.57 lakh youngsters in the age group of 15-18 years would be administered the vaccine in 4259 educational institutions and 2801 government, 1402 private and 56 other institutions would be covered under this drive.
Thakur said, “The state Government is keeping an eye on the spread of delta and omicron cases in the state and preventive measures are being taken to check its spread.”
With a large number of tourists thronging to the state during the past few days and likelihood of more people coming here the state government is quite concerned about the spread of the COVID-19 cases in the state as the number of cases is fast spreading in the country.
Vice Chairperson, H.P. State Hospital Red Cross Society Dr. Sadhna Thakur, MLAs Anil Sharma, Rakesh Jamwal, Inder Singh Gandhi and Mayor, Municipal Corporation Mandi Deepali Jaswal were present among others on this occasion.
