Five persons have died after consuming spurious liquor at Slappar under Sunder Nagar sub-division of Mandi district on Wednesday.
The Director General of HP Police Sanjay Kundu said, “On January 17 some people had consumed branded country liquor (manufactured by VRV Foods Limited Sansarpur Terrace) at Slappar and their condition started deteriorating on January 18, they were admitted in Ner Chowk Medical College where five persons have died.”
The police have confirmed the death of Chet Ram, Sudesh Kumar (both from Slappar), Lal Singh of Sudhan village, Kala Ram of Kangoo village and Rajnish Kumar of Khorata. Four people are under treatment at Ner Chowk Medical College.
A case under section 304, 308 & 120B of IPC has been registered at Sunder Nagar police station. The DGP has also constituted a SIT headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police Central Range Madhu Sudan to probe the case.
Sunder Nagar MLA Rakesh Jamwal said, “The deceased in the incident would be given Rs 8 lakh each (Rs 4 lakh by district administration and Rs 4 lakhs from the CM’s fund).
