One person has reportedly died and twelve others are stated to be missing in flash floods after heavy monsoon rains for several hours in Boh, Droni and Bagli villages in Dharkhandi area of Kangra district.
Several houses in the villages falling under Shahpur police station have been severally affected by torrential rain and landslide. Body of a lady identified as Masto Devi buried under the debris was pulled out by a rescue team.
District administration has sent rescue teams to look for missing persons and help in rescue operation. A team of NDRF has also been deployed. A team comprising of SDM and DSP has also been sent to the affected area.
Popular tourist destination Bhagsunag has also been badly affected by the gushing water where several vehicles have been washed away.
The gushing water has also damaged several houses, shops and a bridge constructed on the edges on Dharmashala – Palampur road at Rajol, Chetdu and Sheela.
The district administration is still assessing the losses. Prime Minister Narender Modi said “We are concerned and closely monitoring the situation.”
Home Minister Amit Shah has deployed NDRF team for the rescue operation. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has thanked the PM and HM for their immediate response and help. Mandi- Manali road is also blocked due to landslide.
