The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has prepared a Safe City Project for Mandi town to ensure safety of women, children, senior citizens, besides the general public by making use of surveillance systems and modern technology.
The project would be implemented with the Nirbhaya Fund created by the Central government which would give 90 percent grant for the project while the state government would provide the rest of the fund.
After watching a presentation by the BSNL officers on Tuesday Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said,” The Safe City Project proposed for Mandi town under Nirbhaya fund would ensure safety of women in public places and would provide smart solutions for better traffic management and crowd control.”
Thakur said, “The project envisages design, development, implementation, operation and installation of CCTV based surveillance system for Mandi town; latest technology i.e. IP based camera infrastructure, unhindered viewing, monitoring record and storage of data would be recorded.”
The project intends to implement a holistic and integrated surveillance system including commissioning of command and control centre at police line Mandi through which assistance to women, girls and senior citizens would be provided in case of any emergency, besides traffic management , checking crime against women and maintaining law and order.”
Thakur said , “ Through the system an eye would be kept on movement of suspicious people, vehicles and other objects at all important places like bus stand, Indira Market, Zonal Hospital, colleges and schools etc ; for emergency support cameras on police mobile vans to cover the disaster affected areas and crime scenes would also be provided “.
The presentation on the project was given by Chief General Manager of HP Telecom Circle Jasvinder Singh Sahota.
