Mandi district has registered first death of a patient from COVID-19, making it as second such causality in Himachal Pradesh.
A 21 years old patient hailing from Sarkaghat area of Mandi district suffering from serious kidney disease had tested positive for COVID -19 and died in Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla on Tuesday evening. His mortal remains were consigned to flames at Shimla on Wednesday as per standard operating procedure (SOP).
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Mandi Dr Jiva Nand Chuahan said , “ The young man belonged to Dev Bhyarta village was having one kidney since his childhood and was suffering from serious disease and had gone to New Delhi for treatment before lockdown where his father is working .”
CMO said, “He had come back to his village on May 1st along with his cousin; on Tuesday morning he had come to Sarkaghat hospital and later Zonal hospital Mandi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri Medical College Nerchowk for medical help”.
“ Since the patient was having chest congestion and problem in breathing he was tested for COVID – 19 and found positive and later referred to IGMC Shimla as he needed immediate dialysis but died there in the evening the same day,” he added.
The health department has prepared a list of people and medical staff who came in his contact and acting as per SOP as the patient was confirmed positive at IGMC too.
Deputy Commissioner Mandi Rugved Thakur has declared area of 3 kms of gram panchayat Dev Bhyarta and Ropari as containment zone putting strict restriction on movement of people, besides declaring adjoining 2 kms area as buffer zone.
DC said, “All supplies in the containment zone would be made by district administration as people would not be allowed to move out from their houses and administration is preparing a list of all people coming in contact of the patient and enforce strict measures as per SOP.”
