Though, the Central Leadership of BJP has been claiming to be strictly against pariwarwad  (nepotism) in distribution of party tickets to family members of BJP leaders but in Himachal Assembly election the party has given a go by to this principle .

The party has given BJP tickets to many candidates who are close relatives of BJP leaders.

BJP leaders, especially Prime Minister Narender Modi have been making scathing attacks on pariwarwad of Congress and other parties for patronizing family rule in politics.

This is a fact that the Congress leadership has been passing  from one generation to another in Central and State politics.

At least eleven Congress candidates in fray in Himachal are close family members of former or present Congress leaders. Prominent among these are Vikrmaditya Singh son of former CM Virbhadra Singh  contesting from Shimla (rural ) seat  , Ram Kumar son of Lajja Ram from Doon constituency and  Ajay Mahajan son of former minister Sat Mahajan from Nurpur.

Rohit Thakur grand son of former CM Ram Lal Thakur, Champa Thakur daughter of senior Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur is contesting from Mandi sadar constituency while he himself is contesting from adjoining Darang constituency, Sudhir Sharma  contesting from Dharamshala is son of former minister Sant Ram , Harshvardhan Chuuhan  is son of former minister Guman Singh from Shilai, Ashish Butail son of Congress leader BB Butail is contesting from Palampur,  Ravi Thakur son of former MLA Lata Thakur  from Lahaul Spiti and Bhuvneshwar Gaur son of former minister Raj Kishan Gaur  is contesting from Manali constituency .

BJP has given party tickets to many family members of present and former party leaders.

Interestingly, BJP  had refused to field Chetan Bragta in by-election to Jubbal- Kotkhai Assembly constituency caused after the death of his father Narender Bragta , a former minister, to shun pariwarwad but has now fielded him from this constituency.

Similarly, BJP had denied ticket to Dr Anil Dhiman son of former minister ID Dhiman in 2017 Assembly election but has now fielded him from Bhoranj constituency.

BJP has also given tickets to Rajat Thakur son of Cabinet Minister Mahendra Singh  from Dharampur constituency, Maya Sharma wife of former MLA Baldev Sharma from Badsar and Neelam Nayyar wife of Chamba MLA Pawan Nayyar.

  1. BJP now can’t claim Non Parvarvad Party now. At State level it has very less achievement to speak about. All it can speak is at National Level.
