The President of India Ram Nath Kovind visited the Atal Tunnel Rohtang on Saturday during his two day tour of Himachal Pradesh.
Accompanied by HP Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur the President went to see the tunnel, which connects Manali with Lahaul –Spiti district. The President’s wife, the First Lady of India Savita Kovind and his daughter also accompanied him.
Earlier, the President on his arrival at Sisu helipad was received by the Governor and the Chief Minister. The CM also presented a traditional Thangka painting to the President. Technical education Minister Dr Ram Lal Markanda, Education Minister Govid Singh Thakur and CS Ram Subhag Singh were also present on the occasion. Chief Engineer of Border Roads Organization Jitender Prasad apprised the President about the importance of the tunnel.
