BJP nominee for Rajya Sabha seat from Himachal Pradesh Prof. Sikandar Kumar, Vice Chancellor of HPU, filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha seat on Monday.

Prof. Sikandar , accompanied by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, BJP state president Suresh Kashyap and other leaders, filed three sets of nomination papers to the VIdhan Sabha Secretary.

He is likely to be declared unopposed on March 24, on the day of withdrawal of the nomination papers as the opposition Congress has not fielded its candidate.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has congratulated Prof. Sikandar and hoped he would play an important role in strengthening the party organization and highlighting important issues in the Rajya Sabha.

HPCC president Kuldeep Rathaur said, “Since the ruling party has adequate numbers to send their nominee to Rajya Sabha the Congress Legislature Party has decided not to field its candidate for the seat vacated by senior Congress leader Anand Sharma.”
