( CITU workers protesting in Shimla on Monday)

The banking and LIC services including working in few other institutions was affected at few places in the state as strike was observed on the call of trade unions opposing privatization of certain banks, implementation of labour laws etc on Monday.

The nationwide call for two days’ strike has been given by Central Trade Unions and National Federations, CITU, INTUC, AITUC, Joint Coordination Committee of Central Employees including Insurance, Bank, BSNL, Postal  and  AG Office employees .  

State president of CITU Vijender Mehra said , “ We are protesting against the amendment in labour laws , formation of labour code, disinvestment and privatization of public sector institutions , restoration of old pension scheme, regularization of temporary workers , checking rising price of petrol, diesel and LPG , besides other demands .”

He said, “Protests rallies, demonstrations and dharanas were organized at Shimla, Chamba, Teesa, Chuvadi, Dharamsala, Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, Mandi, Sarkaghat, Jogindernagar, Balichowki, Kullu, Ani, Sainj, Solan, Darlaghat, Nalagarh, Baddi Barotiwala, Parwanoo, Nahan, Shillai, Shimla, Theog, Rampur, Rohru, Kumarsain, Nirmand and Tapri.”

National secretary of CITU Dr Kashmir Thakur, CITU leaders Vijender Mehra, Prem Guatam and other leaders addressed the protest rallies.
