Ayushman Bharat Pardhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojna is proving to be a boon for people in getting free medical treatment during critical ailments.

The scheme aimed at providing universal health coverage was implemented in Himachal Pradesh on September 23, 2018; while five lakh families in state are covered under the scheme, as many as 71438 beneficiaries have drawn benefits worth Rs 71.95 crores for the medical treatment.

Free treatment up to Rs five lakhs is being provided to the beneficiaries in case of hospitalization in nearly two hundred government and sixty two private hospitals and treatment can also be availed at hospitals registered in different states and union territories. As many as 1579 different procedures including day surgeries are being covered under the scheme.

Sushma Devi of Rajgarh in district Sirmaur was first to get treatment under Ayushmaan Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojna at Rajgarh hospital in Himachal Pradesh.

Before implementation of this scheme a treatment cost of Rs Thirty thousand was borne by the state government and many poor families used to face difficulties as  huge money was required for treatment in  critical diseases.

For successful implementation of this scheme in the state regional level officers of various departments and panchayati raj institutions have been involved, besides giving wider publicity for making people aware about its benefits.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Rajiv Saizal said, “Golden cards are being issued under the Ayush Bharat Yojna for which registration by eligible families can be done by taking their adhaar cards and ration card to nearest Lok Mitra Kendra or registration centers in government hospitals.”

The minister has appealed people to take benefit of free treatment under the scheme and contact toll free number 14555 for more information.
